Ura ibaia da, ibaia da ura
This project by artist Gema Intxausti (Gernika-Lumo, 1966) explores the transformation of the Urdaibai landscape and the construction of identity linked to the territory. Using a methodology that combines historical and artistic research, the work incorporates elements such as school notebooks from the 1940s and the so-called ‘Sudario de Nabarniz’ (Shroud of Nabarniz), related to rituals of transition in the Basque fishing community. The exhibition reflects on human interventions in the natural environment, such as the canalisation of the Oka River and the modification of its meanders, and proposes a reinterpretation of these elements from a contemporary perspective.
